JOHN VAMES     "Remembrance"  CD   and  Songbook
Native American Flute
Songs From a Journey     NOW AVAILABLE

For the year prior to John's passing he and I had been collaborating on a NAF Songbook of Original tunes.
It is entitled "
In Search of Eagle" and we almost had it finished.  There are 25 songs for all levels of Playing.
It is my desire to publish this material in the near future.  What was first and foremost on my list though after he
died was to produce and release a CD of his Original Tunes.  I am so prooud to say here it is with a Companion
Songbook transcribed in Nakai Tab

REMEMBRANCE: Songs From a Journey

... A Collection of John's unpublished flute music written
between 2003 - 2010.  Contained are 1
2 of his  Songs** that reflect
life's seasons and particularly his.  They tell of events,
thoughts and feelings, and given the magic of the flute and
John's playing,  these songs will reach your mind and heart.
I think you will also appreciate their value in applauding the
versatility of the NAF in many styles of music today.
With the exception of
Child's Play and Blue Flute John
recorded these songs in his computer in the early hours of
morning.  I found them in his Garage Band program, after
he died.  There There are 47 and many untitled.  I titled
them as I felt them, choosing names I thought reflected his
journey.  These songs are all very dear ato me, expecially
Letting Go.  It tells the story of what was our hardest
challenge and one we all must face.

I think you will further enjoy After the Rain.  It is a song of acceptance and hope for new beginnings.  It is also the
first song that John and I wrote together in 2005.  Most songs on the album are written in traditional Native
American style, meditative with solo flute.
Remembrance, Your Own Special Way, The Gift, Broken Wing and
After the Rain are presented just that way.  As Above So Below, Call to Spring and The Wedding, though
traditional, have a contemporary feel when experienced with WIll Clipman's accompaniments.

Lastly, there are those songs that speak in a Jazz voice, like
Sweet.  Jazz was John's favorite genre and he felt that
native American music and American Jazz were joined at the hip via the pentatonic scale.  His
Blue Flute
demonstrates this as it begins with a traditional Native sound, kicks into jazz and then returns to traditional.  Lost on
the Rez is another blending of traditional  and jazz.  You can hear the mix of two cultures: a push and pull influence
of one on the other, their confusion and attempt at resolve.  I can't thank
Will Clipman enough fior his sensitivity
creating the rhythms that help make this happen.  Also, my special thanks to our Recording Engineer,
John
Mahoney at RavenPheat Studio
in Phoenix for guiding this project to completion and excellence.
In the final mix what is so impressive and valuable to me is the fact that it sounds as if John and WIll had recorded this in
REAL TIME - can't get any better than that!
